Breastfeeding is one of the precious gift, a mother can give to her child and it is the primary nutrition for a newborn. For the first3 days, we will get only colostrum and that’s the much-needed nutrient for baby. Colostrum contains a lot of antibodies which helps to develop baby’s immune system. Colostrum is more than enough for a newborn during first two to 3days. Drink lots of water after the delivery for the segregation of good amount of colostrum. My milk supply has started exactly on the 4th-day evening and most of the moms will get at the same time. So we don’t panic about the milk segregation before that. My breastfeeding journey was really overwhelming during the initial days. As the days pass by it has become super cool and more convenient thing. Demand and supply is the key rule when it comes to milk supply. How much ever the baby latches, supply will be perfectly fine.
Things I followed for good
- Drink lots and lots of water.
- I was on a special diet which my mom told. ( No gassy item, No spinach, More ghee and some more)for 40 to 45 days.
- I never took any specific supplements except mother’s tea for a few days.Every other body is different and all the supplements won’t suit each and everyone. So its better toknow our body before taking any supplements continuously.
Breastfeeding in public:
That’s one thing which every mom is scared of. Even I was a little hesitant to do it in the beginning. Since, we started to go out very frequently, its hard to manage without feeding for a longer time. So I have slowly started to feed her in public places also. I have to say, that’s one good and easier way during travel. We have travelled to india when she was 5.5 months old and breastfeeding onlyhelped us a lot .
My breastfeeding journey lasts for 1 year and 10 months. After that, she went on nursing strike and weaned on her own. There are so many reasons for a mom to stop breastfeeding not restricted to low milk supply. It can be due to lactose intolerance in babies, Babies may have latching problem etc.. Please don’t feel guilty for the same. Everyone’s life and body is different. Please continue to give whatever milk the doctor suggests.
